The adhesive is the whole product
A strip that needs glue leaves residue and has to be dissolved off. One that activates with water holds by surface tension against the skin instead, which is why it can be lifted away at the end of the day without solvent.
Lace fibre, water-activated
It has a refined lace fibre strip, latex-free and hypoallergenic, that is sprayed with water to become transparent and adhesive and then placed along the eyelid crease.
It is waterproof and sweatproof, and usable under or over eyeshadow, glitter, foundation or primer.

Supplied in a cream compact case. The strips themselves are invisible against skin tones.
Why it costs what it costs
The whole engineering problem here is a strip that is strong enough to hold a fold of skin and thin enough to disappear under foundation. Lace fibre is used because it is open rather than solid, so makeup sits on it instead of beading off it.
